Free up space on your hard drive and unclog your operating system by quickly uninstalling any pre-installed apps you don't use.
Like Windows 10, Windows 11 is coming to PCs new as on clean installations, pre-installed applications that you will probably never use. This software, sometimes offered as trial versions, takes up unnecessary space on your storage and, for some, can cannibalize your machine's resources, reducing its performance.
All of these pre-installed apps, also known as bloatware, can mostly be uninstalled quite easily. It is also possible to get rid of it in several ways. Here's how.
Also discover in video:
1. From the Start menu
The first possible solution to get rid of Windows 11 bloatware is to go directly to the Start menu.
Click on it then, in the Pinned applications panel or from the All applications menu, right-click on one of the applications to be removed and choose to Uninstall it.
Then validate the deletion of the application by clicking on Uninstall in the pop-up that appears.
Repeat the procedure as many times as necessary to get rid of these unwanted applications.
2. From Settings
To uninstall preinstalled applications on Windows 11, you can also go through the OS Settings window.
To do this, click on the Start menu, open the Settings, go to the Applications section in the left column and go to the Applications and features menu.
In the list of installed applications, click the options button represented by three small dots displayed on the line of an application to be removed, then choose to Uninstall it. Validate by clicking again on Uninstall.
3. Using ThisIsWin11
If you're not afraid to put your hands under the hood a bit and are quite fluent in English, you can use a utility like ThisIsWin11 to complete the uninstallation of undesirable elements.
To do this, run ThisIsWin11, then in the left column, go to Apps. On the left of the window, select each app you no longer want to see in Windows 11, then click Add Selected in the center. Apps chosen to be uninstalled should now be displayed in the Recycle Bin column to the right. Then validate their deletion by clicking on the Empty Recycle Bin button.
Be careful however, ThisIsWin11 being as powerful as it is complete, it is reserved for experienced users.
4. Using Windows10Debloater
Don't be fooled by its name. While Windows10Debloater is a script originally created to remove pre-installed apps on Windows 10, it also works perfectly on Windows 11.
To use it, right-click on the Start menu and launch the Windows Terminal (administrator).
Then copy and paste the following line of code into the Terminal window:
Validate by pressing the Enter key on the keyboard so that the Windows Terminal creates a restore point, downloads the script to your machine, and runs it.
A Windows 10 Debloater window should then open in the background. Several options are then available to you. You can uninstall Onedrive by clicking on the Uninstall OneDrive button, or disable Windows telemetry tools by clicking on Disable Telemetry/Tasks.
Behind, the Terminal window should display the various operations performed. Take a look at it and validate the actions to be carried out when asked.
Finally, click on Customize Blocklist. In the window that opens, select the items you want to remove and click Save custom Allowlist and Blocklist to custom-lists.ps1.
Back in the Windows 10 Debloater window, click the Remove bloatware with custom blocklist button.
The script should then uninstall all of the selected items. Then restart your computer so that all the operations carried out are taken into account.
