What are the salaries in the artificial intelligence professions?
The talent sector in artificial intelligence is already in a situation of shortage. A boon for students or people who wish to retrain. To help you find your way around, Michael Page Technology, an entity specializing in the IT and IT professions of the PageGroup recruitment group, has dedicated a study to it.
As for the most promising professions, Sacha Kalusevic, senior director at Michael Page Technology, first mentions all those related to AI programming and data processing, which are becoming stronger. He cites the professions of chief data officer, “who find their place cross-functionally in organizations”, but also of data architect and machine learning engineer. In addition, there are jobs related to data protection, which have been strengthened with the GDPR, data scientists and data analysts.
And then there are the new opportunities. “The profession that I think will really develop concerns computational linguists, linguistic programming engineers. These are hybrid profiles mixing technical skills in programming, statistics or mathematics but also skills in sociology, philosophy, human sciences, to insert a little more of the human dimension into AI,” explains Sacha Kalusevic.
“These professions are developing in the United States. Within Stanford University – which is the most advanced in AI today in the world – there are already training courses at this level. HEC has launched a master's degree which aims to develop this dimension of AI and human relations. These new professions will emerge and play a very important role in taking the ‘step’ of AI autonomy in the coming years”.
In terms of sectors, information technology, manufacturing, healthcare and finance/insurance have been identified as the main employers by Michael Page Technology.
As regards pay levels, “in the most specialized professions, the most important for companies, wages are increasing. All jobs related to AI programming and data processing are on fairly high salary levels from the start of the career and the increases are significant year after year,” summarizes Sacha Kalusevic.
For example, & Early-career AI programmers can start at $38,000-$40,000 in annual gross pay. The best can even start around 45,000 and up, adds senior director of Michael Page Technology. And very quickly, these salaries can increase by 25%, 30%, 40% over the first five years of their career.

After having been at the head of Lazada, the Southeast Asian e-commerce platform belonging to the giant Alibaba which he co-founded, Pierre Poignant left the management of the company to create Branded. What Branded proposes is to buy companies that only sell their products on marketplaces, such as Amazon, to then take care of increasing their striking power tenfold. To support its development, the startup also raised $150 million in a round led by Target Global in early February. Why is the Frenchman making this new bet? What does the sector look like? We spoke with Pierre Poignant to find out more.

WildCard:
In today's WildCard, we take off for the Netherlands to pay tribute to Lou Ottens who built his entire career as an engineer at Philips, the world famous Dutch giant. Lou Ottens, who died just a few days ago, is quite simply, among other things, the inventor of the “audio cassette” which revolutionized the way millions of people around the world listen to music.
