The Caminito del Rey is a well-known hike in the region. The path is dug into the rock or made up of bridges fixed to the side of the cliff which sometimes overhang the river by a hundred meters.

The route is from the start in the town of Ardales to the finish in the town of Alora. From there start two paths that lead to the checkpoint and the Gaitanejo dam, the entrance to the official route of El Caminito del Rey. The longest stretches for 2.7 kilometers and begins at the “Sillón del Rey”. The other, shorter trail, 1.5 kilometers long, starts in a smaller pedestrian tunnel. Once you arrive at the checkpoint, you are given a protective helmet and the staff check that you are wearing appropriate footwear. Since this is a linear one-way trip, consider adding the time to return to the starting point (about an hour more).
