SEONGNAM, 19 Oct.(Yonhap) - The International Aeronautical and Defense Exhibition in Seoul (ADEX) began this Tuesday at the Seoul air base, south of the capital and presents advanced equipment and technologies such as huntersstealth and drones by offering various commercial consultations and seminars on the defense industry, the organizer said.
This large five-day biennial exhibition comes against the backdrop of persistent regional tensions caused by the evolution of North Korean threats and the intensification of Sino-American rivalry.
The event will offer local and foreign armament companies a rare opportunity to take stock of progress in the armament industry and seek business opportunities, while the pandemic again coronavirus (covid-19) Has hampered their exchanges in person.
This year's edition mobilized 440 companies from 28 countries, including 171 foreign companies, detailed the organizer.This is the greatest number of companies participating in this exhibition launched in 1996.
Among the facilities exposed are large hydrogen drones, training systems based on virtual reality, laser weapons systems, unmanned versatile vehicles, as well as dozens of military aircraft, such as hunters fa-50 and basic training aircraft kt-1.
The F-35A, manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corp., is revealed for the first time to the general public since the stealth aircraft was delivered to a unit of the South Korean Air Force in 2019.During the 2019 exhibition, a model of this stealth aircraft was exhibited.
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc.presents the combat drone MQ-1C Gray Eagle.Capable of high definition surveillance, the drone can transport four anti-channel air-ground missiles.
ADEX also unveils weapons based on the ground such as the combat chariot K-2 and the self-propelled belly K-9.
The exhibition introduces a wide variety of equipment that can be applied in other areas such as space development and urban air mobility.
Hanwha Aerospace Co.Exhibited an engine with a 75-ton thrust which is the same as that equipping the South Korean Nuri space rocket, which will be launched Thursday at the Naro space center in Goheung, 473 kilometers south of Seoul.
Lig nex1 co.Unveiled the hydrogen cargo drone which is currently being developed to transport 200 kilograms of freight for its launch in 2025.
About twenty round tables and international conferences will be held on the sidelines of the exhibition, added the organizer.
