Morocco is developing a roadmap for the energy valuation of biomass
(Ecofin agency) - To achieve its objectives in terms of inclusion of renewable in its energy mix, Morocco intends to rely on all of its resources.
The Moroccan Ministry of Energy, Mines and the Environment has announced that Morocco is developing its roadmap for the energy valuation of biomass (VEB).This roadmap will contribute to the achievement, through the country of its objective of bringing the share of renewable energies in its energy mix to 52 % by 2030.
The development strategy of biomass power plants will inject approximately 13.4 million MWh per year into the national electricity network. Thus, around 6.6 million MWh will come from the agricultural sector, 3.5 million MWh in the forest sector, 3.1 million MWh of solid waste and 0.2 million MWh of wastewater.
The roadmap has been developed on the basis of a diagnosis and analysis of potential at national and regional levels, taking into account different sectoral guidelines.
The roadmap also offers an action plan to optimize energy valuation by 2030.Biomass energy recovery projects do not require significant investments in terms of the development of the electrical network. They are generally small and require medium or low voltage electrical connection.
