Microsoft changes its perpetual licenses in its CSP program
Small revolution in the arduous universe of Microsoft license contracts.As announced in September, CSP (Cloud Solution Provider or Provid Solutions) partners can now access its perpetual licenses directly from the CSP program.So far, to buy perpetual licenses, you had to go through the Open License program.
Main interest of this development for partners: simplification.At a time when most companies are in a hybrid cloud environment, no need to switch from one license program to another to provide customers with everything they need: everything is now accessible from onepoint and, above all, according to a single contractual vehicle.
"The CSP program has been designed to allow partners to draw from the Microsoft catalog the technological bricks they need to build their own offers, personalized according to customers," recalls Agnès Van de Walle, director of the partner organization of MicrosoftFrance.Limited at the start to Azure solutions, the program has gradually enriched by opening up to Modern Workplace solutions, then to Dynamics and Tablets.From now on, all these products, whether provided in the form of subscription or perpetual licenses, will be able to hold on a single invoice.»»
This contractual innovation is part of a process of gradual disappearance of other license programs. « Le programme Open existe depuis environ 25 ans et il arrive à ses limites»», souligne Agnès Van de Walle.The open license component will be stopped at the end of 2021.And within five years, the open value (with Software Insurance) and Open Value Subscription (Subscription) components should even know the release.To accelerate the transition to the CSP program, which will ultimately remain the only contractual model accessible to partners, Microsoft has deleted since January 1 the additional discounts enjoyed by partners for transactions carried out as part of the Open License program.
According to Microsoft, less than 20% of its open partners have not yet migrated to its CSP program.These will soon be able to sell perpetual licenses in strictly transactional mode.
