Formula 1. Lewis Hamilton was knighted by Prince Charles
A few days after missing out on an eighth Formula 1 title, Briton Lewis Hamilton was awarded a knighthood by Prince Charles at a ceremony at Windsor Castle in England on Wednesday.
Hamilton, 36, has been incorporated into the New Year Honors Membership List, a system for nominating new members of orders of chivalry, following a year he tied the record for titles held by Michael Schumacher and broke the record for Grand Prix victories (103).
4th driver to be knighted
On Sunday, the seven-time world champion lost the championship on the last lap of the final Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi to Dutchman Max Verstappen, who won his first world title.
In the lead for almost the entire race, the Mercedes driver was overtaken by his young rival after the deployment of the safety car following a minor accident by Canadian Nicholas Lafiti.
