Curfew, closings and back-to-school back to school: Quebec gives a stroke of the bar

This is dropped by the Prime Minister of Quebec, François Legault, after having announced a series of new measures, the most severe in North America, in an attempt to curb the rise in cases of infection, andEspecially hospitalizations, in the province.

All measures will come into force on Friday, December 31, from 5 p.m.

Quebecers will no longer be able to be outside their residences between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., under penalty of a fine ranging from $ 1,000 to $ 6000.

As during the previous curfew, exceptions are planned.It will thus be possible to be outside outside the hours allowed to go to work, take a course, receive medication or health care, make a blood donation, renew a child in the other parent whohas custody, or get his dog out to do his needs, in particular.

And this time, homeless people are also exempt from the application of the curfew.Last January, the Superior Court suspended the application to the latter after Quebec refused to do so.The complete list of exceptions to the curfew (new window) is available on the government's website.

The Prime Minister did not give an expiration date for the curfew, but has promised that it is the first measurement raised when the situation in hospitals will improve.

Private rallies are now prohibited.Only the occupants of the same residence will be able to find themselves under one roof.A single person can, however, join a family bubble.

Quebec also closes the dining rooms of restaurants.Orders to take away as well as deliveries will however be in force.

Back to school postponed

Schools, CEGEPs and universities will remain closed at least until January 17 in all regions of the province.The government invites establishments that can continue online learning before the return.

Or, le premier ministre Legault a bel et bien précisé lors de la conférence de presse du 30 décembre que toutes les écoles, les cégeps [et] les universités [resteraient] fermés jusqu'au 17 janvier.

The childcare services remain open, however.Those in school will only be for children of essential workers.

All places of worship will also be closed, with the exception of funerals, which will however have to be limited to 25 people.

To give respite to the owners taken with a problem of lack of staff, the shops in the province will be closed on Sunday, with the exception of certain establishments such as convenience stores, petrol stations and pharmacies.

Quebec also suspends the practice of interior sports, unless activity is practiced alone, two or by members of the same family.

We will live very hard days

François Legault has also asked public health the possibility of expanding the use of the vaccination passport, and therefore requiring it in more public places and shops.

L'objectif, selon le premier ministre : protéger les non-vaccinés contre eux-mêmes, eux qui comptent pour 10 % de la population, mais pour 50 % des hospitalisations.

Je comprends qu'il y a une certaine colère dans la population à l'égard des non-vaccinés, a dit M. Legault. Mais pas question de cesser de les soigner. Ce n'est pas le genre de société qu'on veut au Québec. On n'ira pas dans cette direction-là.
