Brittany. The Landivisiau combined-cycle gas power plant will come into operation in February 2022
The gas turbine was ignited on November 1, 2021. Twelve years after the signing of the Breton electricity pact, the combined-cycle gas power plant in Landivisiau (Finistère) should enter its commercial commissioning phase in February 2022 It must meet the needs of the market, its operation will not be continuous.
West-France Gaelle COLIN. Published onIt must prevent any electrical blackout in Brittany. It took twelve years for the Landivisiau combined-cycle gas plant (Finistère) to produce its energy, after the signing of the Breton electricity pact in 2010. The gas turbine was ignited for the first tests on 1st< /sup> November 2021. The idea being to demonstrate that the “plant meets the contractual specifications”, specifies Christophe Marette, project director for TotalEnergies. Commercial commissioning is expected to be effective in February 2022.
A colossal project of 400 million euros, which has accumulated delays. The fault of the legal proceedings – which ruled in favor of TotalEnergies – to Covid-19 and certain surprises inherent in the construction site. “We had an alignment problem between the gas turbine, the generator and the steam turbine. But everything is resolved and we are making good progress. »
A six-month-to-year operation?
It is through this system that electricity will be produced, thanks to the heat released by the combustion of natural gas. The latter will be imported by the GRT network, then mixed with air. The water vapor turbine completes the trio to operate the alternator. It is he who will transform this energy into electricity, which will be exported to the Electricity Transmission Network.
The control panel will not be on continuously. “This installation will meet the needs of the market. We suspect that there are peaks in consumption, but we cannot predict anything. In addition to the needs of the tip of Brittany, the plant operated by the Electric Company of Brittany could also possibly strengthen national demand. In the hypothesis, it could operate six months a year, day and night. And would release 500,000 tonnes of CO2. “Combustion fumes will be invisible and there will be no fine particles released,” explains Christophe Marette.
"The less it works, the better"
So what exactly is it for? “Its strength is that it can produce electricity very quickly. And that without noise, since outside, it was measured between 47 and 55 decibels. »
On the risk side, TotalEnergies ensures that everything has been perfectly supervised and limited. In the worst case scenario, "if there was an explosion, which will not happen, it would be contained on only part of the site".
Soaring energy prices: have you postponed switching on your heating? Debate!Twelve years later, is the project still relevant? Its total capacity is equivalent to the electricity consumption of a city of 400,000 inhabitants. During his trip to Scotland, the President of the Region, Loïg Chesnais-Girard, defended its implementation. But emphasizing that “the less it works, the better”. Its non-use thus indicating a drop in electricity consumption at the tip of Brittany…
