In a study published in mid-July, Public Health France had recorded 314 accidental drownings, therefore 79 fatal, between June 1 and July 5, a report that the “general relaxation” after the confinements due to Covid-19 could have contributed to aggravate. A number that the authors of the study consider “high” and which represents an increase of 22% for accidental drownings, and 58% of deaths compared to a 2018 survey, underlined the study.
The age categories most affected by these accidents are children aged 0 to 5 (21% of drownings) and people aged 65 and over (25%), the study pointed out.
