Originally released in 2010 on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 under the name Nier Replicant or Nier Gestalt depending on the platform or region, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... is an improved version of the action-RPG game from creator Yoko TARO in which we owe in particular the series of RPG Drakengard as well as Nier Automata, respectively released before and after Nier Replicant. Relive the origins of the NieR franchise in an all-new experience and experience the test of NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… on Xbox Series X, also available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC from April 23, 2021.
NB: For those who have played the European version 2010, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… takes the main character from the original Japanese version.

The story begins in a dark apocalyptic world, in which the protagonist: a young boy goes in search of a cure for his younger sister Yonah, suffering from a mysterious disease: runic necrosis.
From the beginning of the adventure, you will make a surprising encounter, a strange book endowed with speech and a substantial knowledge of this world: Grimoire Weiss thanks to which you will be able to use different forms of magic to defend yourself against the many enemies who have invaded this world: the Shadows. Other companions with strong and endearing personalities will then join your cause.
Game System
Intense combat and a varied arsenal
The combat system of the original title has been revised to offer a game experience similar to that of NieR: Automata. .You have different light, medium or heavy weapons that you will obtain via quests or from arms merchants. The 33 weapons available (excluding DLC) are classified into 3 categories: one-handed swords, two-handed swords and spears. Once you've selected one of each type, it's easy to quickly switch between them via the direction arrows on the controller, allowing you to quickly adapt to the type of enemy you encounter.
Thanks to the Grimoire Weiss, you will be able to wield magic through different spells that you assign to the 4 triggers of the controller (2 triggers are reserved for parrying and dodging but can be reassigned). Personally, I only used 3 most useful magics for my taste.
While fighting the Shadows, you will sometimes get "words" that work as bonuses to your weapons, spells, defense, and dodge. For example, they can increase physical and magical damage, experience points gained, absorb life, add penalties to your attacks... The experience obtained during combat will raise your character's level, thus increasing your life gauges. and magic. Finally, weapons can also be improved at the blacksmith in exchange for sometimes quite rare items, so be sure to pick up everything you find.
Bestiary
Although in your adventures you encounter some hostile animals, your main enemies are the Shadows, these mostly humanoid creatures will attack you as soon as they see you. So don't expect to detect artificial intelligence in these enemies. The bestiary is therefore quite small, although the Shadows acquire means of defense as you progress through the story.
On the other hand, the fights against bosses and secondary bosses are quite different and therefore require adapted strategies and armaments.
Lots of side quests
NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… has around 70 side quests that you can activate by talking to the various NPCs you encounter. Most of them will ask you to travel the open world in order to bring back different objects obtained by killing enemies, picking them up at collection points or breaking crates. You may be able to buy some of them from different merchants, however money is scarce at the start of the game and it is better to save it for bigger purchases such as weapons. or large sums of money to reward you for time spent.
Optional activities
Offered through side quests, fishing and harvesting will allow you to take a break from the fights. These sometimes complex and quite time-consuming activities will allow you in the long term to make money for example to buy all the expensive weapons available for sale or to buy objects requested by certain NPCs to complete side quests.
Unfortunately, these activities are not very well explained and you may have a little trouble at first.
Graphics
While remaining faithful to the original NieR universe, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… has undergone a major graphic overhaul: initially in 720p and 30 fps, this new version offers a maximum resolution of 4K at 60 fps.
The environments and character models have been reworked, the lighting improved in order to offer a graphical rendering close to Nier: Automata, released in 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Soundtrack
Composer Keiichi Okabe and his team at MONACA have done a remarkable job re-recording the music from the excellent soundtrack. New music has been composed for this release and the free DLC even offers playing along with the NieR:Automata soundtrack.
On the dialogue side, two languages are available. I chose to finish the game for the first time with the Japanese voices then to continue with the English voices and I must say that the two versions are really excellent. The only regret I have is to have sometimes passed next to the dialogues (fully subtitled in French) during certain fights where the characters continue to speak while you fight against hordes of enemies or a surly boss.
Lifetime
Completing the game for the first time by completing a good part of the side quests should take you about thirty hours.
But stopping there would deprive you of a good part of the scenario since NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… has several different endings that you will have to unlock one after the other. Indeed, once the end is reached, the game offers you to resume your save which will lead directly to the second half of the adventure by adding additional cinematic content that will help you better understand the history of Nier and also the past. of the different characters. It would be a shame to miss it. Note, however, that completing all the endings and the many side quests will extend the initial duration by a few dozen hours.
A free DLC that will delight NieR:Automata players
Released at the same time as NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, the free “4 YoRHa” DLC will delight NieR:Automata players by offering 4 costumes and 4 weapons from the latter.
My review for NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... on Microsoft Xbox Series X
17/20In 2017, I loved NieR:Automata for its dark and exciting universe and I was eager to discover this "improved" version of NieR Replicant even if I did not know the episode originally released. I really was not disappointed, with NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… I find this particular atmosphere that I liked so much in Automata. Even if it's not a remake, the game is beautiful and fluid and the scenario is so crazy with these charismatic and endearing characters. After about fifty hours, I still have a few endings to discover and I can't find the long time. It would almost make me want to start NieR:Automata again ;)
