Overview of the ergonomic keyboard Logitech Ergo K860 on sale in France at € 119 |Macgeneration
Announced last year for the United States, the Logitech Ergo K860 keyboard will finally be available in France from March 5 at 119 €.This keyboard completes the range of ergonomic devices from the Swiss manufacturer made up of the MX vertical mouse and the Trackballs Ergo M575 and MX Ergo.
As a product designed above all to adapt to the human body, this keyboard has a design that stands out.The Ergo K860 is the opposite of the Apple keyboards at all flat, it is curved so much that there is a hollow in the middle of the letters. It is a common design for ergonomic keyboards, but which surprises when you do not know this category of products.
To complete this form which avoids the non-natural positions of the hands and wrists, the Ergo K860 has a wide smooth and padded-pad.According to Logitech, the keyboard provides 54 % additional support while reducing the wrist bending by 25 %.
The Ergo K860, which I have been trying for four days, is the first ergonomic keyboard to pass under my hands.I am therefore not qualified to compare it to other products of the genre, but I can give my impressions of novice in the field.
Like the other ergonomic keyboards, the Ergo K860 impressed me a little just looking at it;Not being an expert in typing, I was afraid of being unable to type properly due to his keys distant by a central hollow. In fact, the adaptation was much less harsh than I imagined. So I always make typing mistakes that I would not do with the keyboard integrated into my macbook air, but at no time did I have the temptation to abandon my test to return to my classic keyboard.
What prompted me to continue my use despite a lower striking speed is its undeniable ergonomic appearance.Without even having never suffered from musculoskeletal disorders, I must say that I feel clearly the comfort offered by the Ergo K860 compared to an Apple keyboard-on this subject, as much to take the lead and try ergonomic peripherals before beforeto end up with tendonitis.
I want to believe the Swiss manufacturer when he says that the vast majority of ergonomic peripheral users never go to traditional products - after his vertical MX test, Florian has definitively adopted it at the expense of the Magic Mouse.
Nevertheless, the Ergo K860 will probably not replace the keyboard integrated into my MacBook Air (at the office, I used to work with my laptop open in front of an external screen), especially because it is bulky (456 x233 x 48 mm for 1.16 kg) and that I have habits with hard -rooted trackpad.
The toothache cannot be dissociated, which is assumed by Logitech, because this cushion contributes enormously to the ergonomic aspect of the product. However, this can pose a problem of space on a small desktop. In addition, as the Ergo K860 incorporates a digital pavement, you have to make a slightly more important gesture to the right to go and catch your mouse/trackpad only if it had (Microsoft offers a keyboardErgonomic with distinct digital pavement). And as the footstand is not detachable, I cannot put the trackpad under the keyboard.
All these combined elements make me slower with the ergo k860 + a trackpad than with the keyboard of the macbook air + its trackpad constantly under my fingers.Of course, it is a configuration among others. If you usually use an external keyboard accompanied by any score device, these considerations will pass you over the head.
Ergonomic facet aside, Ergo K860 is a very complete keyboard. He has Perfect Stroke touches with a fairly classic and silent strike. It is supposed to endure at least 10 million strikes-the toe will be damaged more quickly than the keys.
It is designed for Mac as well as for PCs, which means that some keys are a bit loaded in characters, but nothing dramatic. The connection to the computer is done either in Bluetooth or using the Dongle 2.4 GHz USB-A included (in case the Bluetooth does not work well, but I did not have any concern).
We can twin in Bluetooth the keyboard with three devices simultaneously and go from one to the other thanks to the dedicated keys, which is practical when we have to juggle between Mac, iPad and iPhone (or other) regularly. He is also able to follow a mouse with Flow technology which allows you to go from one computer to another by moving the cursor on the different screens.
The Ergo K860 does not require additional software to operate on Mac, its function keys are well recognized.Nevertheless, there are some additional options in the logitech options (which is not yet optimized for Apple Silicon architecture, but works thanks to Rosetta). The keyboard is powered by two AAA batteries which must offer it two years of autonomy. The disappointment comes from the lack of backlighting. It's a shame on such a big keyboard and at this price.
In the end, the Logitech Ergo K860 is a good ergonomic keyboard, very comfortable and very complete.Too bad, however, whether it was one piece, a more modular or more compact version could have opened it to a wider customers.
