Huawei P50: the latest news a few days before its officialization

Barring last-minute upheaval, the official presentation of the Huawei P50 should take place on July 29. A few days before the special event scheduled by the Chinese giant, we therefore return here to all the relatively reliable information collected in recent months about the new flagships of Huawei.

The Huawei P50s will run on HarmonyOS

Hurt by the American embargo and the break with Google, Huawei has lived through quite catastrophic recent months in terms of sales and presence in the global smartphone market. But the Chinese giant intends to rectify the situation. For this, it relies on its new operating system totally developed in-house: Harmony OS. Positioning itself as a direct competitor to Android and iOS, this new mobile operating system will be installed natively on the smartphones of the new Huawei P50 series.

These will normally be three in number. In addition to the Standard version, the Chinese manufacturer should therefore present, on July 29, a Huawei P50 Pro and a Huawei P50 Pro +. It is still difficult to know if the three models will be available internationally. But if we go by some sources, the P50 Pro+ could be sold exclusively in China. However, this remains to be confirmed.

Huawei P50 4G or 5G?

Due to the shortage of components that has affected the market for several months, and taking into account, once again, the restrictions to which Huawei is subject, the Chinese brand would have resolved to market, initially, 4G versions of its Huawei P50s. During the conference on Thursday, Richard Yu, boss of the Chinese group, should therefore present models equipped with Kirin 9000 chips from HiSilicon engraved in 5nm.

But it is also very likely that the 5G versions will also be mentioned. Equipped with a Snapdragon 888 chip, the latter could be on the market before the end of the year.

Huawei P50: new kings of photography?

The Huawei P range has always stood out with its excellent photo performance, as evidenced by the great success of the Huawei P30. The Huawei P50s should validly take up the torch and claim the title of best photophones on the market. In any case, this is what the latest leaks suggest concerning the technical sheet of the cameras of future Chinese flagships.

We learn that the Huawei P50 will be equipped, at the back, with two large oblong photo blocks which will house their main photo sensors. The Huawei P50 Standard should have 4, while the P50 Pro and P50 Pro+ should each have 5.

To go into more detail, the Huawei P50 Standard should be equipped with a main module developed in partnership with Leica (a vario-summilux-h 1:1.6-3.5/13-90 ASPH), associated with an ultra-large sensor angle, a telephoto lens with a focal aperture ranging from f/1.6 to f/3.5, as well as a depth sensor.

The Huawei P50 Pro should, for its part, take over the main sensor of 52 megapixels present on the P40. Also designed by Leica, the latter will normally be associated with a telephoto lens with a 5x optical zoom, an 18mm ultra-wide angle lens and a depth sensor.

Finally, the Huawei P50 Pro+ should completely revolutionize the photophone market with its 1/1.18 inch main sensor signed by Sony and a 100x or 200x zoom, resulting from the combination of a periscopic lens and a telephoto lens. We can't wait to see the result!
