How to scan a QR Code on a smartphone? | SFR NEWS
This new generation barcode, used to redirect to an Internet link or share information with a simple gesture, is becoming more and more democratized. So here's how to do it, whether on an Android device or an iPhone, the day you're confronted with this strange square symbol...
If the QR Code has been around for a long time, you may have never used it before. Till today. Because of course, you must have seen it spread more and more in recent years, but this square-shaped 2.0 barcode has really become essential with the health crisis. Several restaurants, in particular, have definitively adopted it to respect barrier gestures, thus inviting customers to scan this symbol with their smartphone so as not to pass menus from hand to hand. And above all, it is he who appears on the famous health pass, which you can save on your mobile device precisely via this black and white graphic.
The QR Code has of course other functions. It can redirect you to a website as well as facilitate your connection to wifi, for example. Rather than typing an endless password, you can indeed scan a QR Code generated by your box to have access, in a jiffy, to the network from your smartphone. Handy, isn't it? So now is the time to learn how. Don't panic, it's child's play, both on Android and iPhone.
Scanning a QR Code with iPhone
Let's start with Apple's smartphone. Not necessarily out of favouritism, but because, you'll see, it's going to be very fast. Not only because unlike Android devices, from different manufacturers, the iOS system logically works the same way for all iPhones. But also because the apple brand has done things well. No need to look for noon to two p.m., the function used to scan QR Codes has been directly integrated into the camera. Here is the procedure, in three mini steps.
- Open the camera.
- Point the camera (rear) towards the QR Code you want to decrypt.
- When it is recognized, a notification appears on the screen: tap on it to open the link.
We told you, it was going to be fast. In a few seconds, you're done.
Scanning a QR Code on Android
Do you have a Samsung, Xiaomi or OPPO? All of these smartphones, like the vast majority of non-Apple-branded devices on the market, run Android. And since it is an operating system developed by Google, they can all take advantage of its Google Lens functionality – in the same way as Gmail messaging, the Chrome browser, or the Drive storage service. It is via this image recognition program that you can simply scan a QR Code on Android.
- Access Google Lens via Google Assistant: tap on the small camera icon.
- Point the camera at the QR Code in question. < li>A small blue dot appears on the screen: make sure it appears in the center of the QR Code.
- Tap on it… And voila, the decrypted QR Code, you are directly redirected to the content digital that it was hiding!
If your Android smartphone does not have Google Lens, or if by some unfortunate coincidence you encounter problems with this application, there are other solutions depending on the brands. At Samsung, you can go through Bixby Vision from the camera. As for Huawei, open the shortcuts by sliding your finger from top to bottom on the screen, there you will find a scan icon. Then with Xiaomi, it's as simple as on iPhone: the functionality is integrated into the camera, just check in the settings that it is activated.
Now that QR Codes hold no secrets for you, it's up to you!
