Review your Facebook profile

Deleting Facebook posts

Facebook makes it easy to delete your old posts with the activity log. Go to your profile, click on the three-dot menu, and select Activity Log. This feature shows you all the actions you, or another user, have taken on your timeline, including reactions, shares, comments, tags, and posts. Results can be filtered by date or specific person.

How to quickly delete old Facebook posts? (tutorial)

On desktop, you can scroll through all your past actions on Facebook, or choose a category under the Activity Types heading to view your posts, tags, or interactions. Click the Review timeline, photos, and tags button to filter out specific tags. Mobile users should select nested categories to view more specific posts, tags, interactions, and actions.

When you come across a post you want to delete, select the three-dot menu to delete, hide, or archive; contrary to a comment; or delete a tag. If you want to delete multiple messages at once, check the box next to Actions, then select Archive or Trash in the top right.


Hide Facebook posts

You can limit the visibility of old photos and posts by making them private instead of deleting them entirely. In your Timeline, click the ellipsis next to the post you want to hide, select Edit audience (Edit mobile privacy), then select who should be allowed to view the post. Choose Only me to hide it from everyone else. To hide the message from only certain people, select Friends except... or Specific friends... to include or exclude certain friends.

Facebook also has a tool to mass hide public posts from the Timeline. To do this, click on the arrow in the upper right corner of your profile and go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Privacy. Click the Limit Past Messages button to open a warning that all your public messages will be converted to friends-only messages. If you're happy with that, click the Limit past posts link and your public posts will only be visible to people on your friends list.

On mobile, tap the hamburger icon and select Settings & Privacy > Settings > Privacy Settings > Limit who can see past messages. Here you can also change how future messages will appear.

Download your Facebook data
