How many different smartphones have the brands released in a year?

From those who flood the market to those whose nose is barely seen, we have classified for you 14 brands of smartphones present in France.

The average user renews his smartphone every two years, which is not very good for the planet.Some say that manufacturers too often offer new models.On the contrary, we will argue that the choice to buy a new device is the responsibility of the consumer.Besides, brands are far from being on an equal footing on this subject: some have very large catalogs, and others are content with an annual renewal.

This is why we offer this file listing the number of smartphones models marketed by each brand on the past year, with the added bonus of the way their ranges are tidy.To be relatively up to date, we have chosen an interval current from October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2019.

In this ranking ranging from the most prolific to the most frugal, we have made some choices that should be specified.First, we have confined to the main brands that we cover in our columns.Smaller entry-level manufacturers undoubtedly provide a significant volume of models, but they would not necessarily speak to a French consumer.

This is the second point: this dossier will only identify the devices marketed in France.Manufacturers are happy to reserve certain ranges for different markets, such as the Samsung Galaxy M intended as a priority for Asian emerging.

Between this and the smartphones that come out under different names from one place to another - like the Mi 9T of Xiaomi, which is also called Redmi K20 - there is not really any sense to put the whole world inThe same basket.This means, among other things, that certain major brands, such as Vivo, are absent from this classification, because not established in France.

Samsung: 15 models

At the top of the number of models released in France, it is Samsung who size the lion's share.The Korean conglomerate has rationalized its catalog on the past year, but it remains plump.We counted 15 devices released in France there.In the large flagship category, the Galaxy S10 has been pavaning since February alongside its S10 Plus variants and S10E.The Galaxy Note 10 and its twin note 10 Plus occupied the month of August, and the Galaxy Fold resurrected after a launch canceled in the spring.

The Galaxy range has, as renewed this spring, intends to cover the entire intermediate price range thanks to a slew of models - of which only some are available in France.In ascending order of sophistication, these are the Galaxy A10, A20E, A40, A50, A70 and A80.To this must be added some models from the end of 2018, such as the Galaxy A7 and A9 belonging to the old version of the range, and the entry -level smartphones Galaxy J4+ and J6+.

Xiaomi: 13 models

The following in the list, with 13 models marketed in France and a more tarabiscotated range, is Xiaomi.We can already cut the Chinese manufacturer's catalog into two main families: Mi and Redmi.The Xiaomi Mi 9 has declined in versions 9 SE and 9 Lite, while the Mi 8 Lite also released over our period of interest.Then came the evolution in Mi 9t and Mi 9t Pro.Elsewhere in the range, we find the Mi Mix 3 and the Mi A3.

As for the cheaper Redmi brand, the Chinese firm announced a Redmi 7 with a low-cost 7a variant.Large formats are represented by the Redmi Note 7 and note 6 pro.At the bottom of the catalog, the Redmi Go wants to be the most affordable smartphone.

Huawei: 12 models

Despite some regrettable clashes from May 2019 with a certain American leader, Huawei continues to sell a beautiful skewer of models in France, with or without the services of Google.Last November thus welcomed the arrival of the high -end Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and the Luxe Mate 20 Porsche Design version.Spring saw the flagships P30, P30 pro and their little brother P30 Lite hatch.

Then it was the turn of the 2019 versions of the P Smart and P Smart+, successors at intermediate prices of the P8 Lite range, and the P Smart Z with a retractable camera.The entry -level is represented by the 2019 editions of the Huawei Y5, Y6 and Y7.

Nokia: 10 models

This year at Nokia was marked by a real garland of figures for the names of its smartphones.The higher the figure, the more upmarket, and the ".1 "and".2 ”indicate improvements.We start with the Nokia 1 more at very low cost, then we progress towards the 2.2, the 3.1 Plus, the 3.2, the 4.2, the 5th.1 Plus, the 7th.1, the 7th.2, and finally the 8.1.At the top stands out the Nokia 9 Pureview, high -end with its five cameras.

Motorola: 9 models

Motorola has made rationalization efforts on the past year, which has essentially reduced its range to two ranges.The good old motorcycle series has fleshed out from the mid -range motorcycle G7 with its G7 Plus variations, G7 Power and G7 Play.The earliest motorcycle E6 has recently added to the list.

The entry -level Motorola One inaugurated a new line of models associated with the Android One program, which offers sleek and Google certified software.The brand offers a heterogeneous set of devices at various prices, in this case the One Vision, One Action and One Zoom.

Oppo: 9 models

The Chinese brand Oppo landed in France recently with its R15 Pro, and has marketed there for a number of devices.The new Reno range brings together the brand's new heads of the brand, including the Reno 10x Zoom declination focused on photo and the reduced Reno Z version.There is also a version of the 10x zoom in football colors of FC Barcelona, and the brand the account as a separate model.

Asus: 6 models

Best known for its laptops, Asus also offers smartphones under its ZenFone range.Alongside the standard Zenfone 6, we find the ZenFone Max M2 and Max Pro M2 intermediate devices, as well as the cheap telephone Zenfone L2.

Asus brand dedicated to video games, Republic of Gamers, also released its first gaming smartphones.The first Asus Rog Phone was thus followed this year by its evolution, the ROG Phone II.

Sony: 5 models

The smartphone offer of the Sony electronics giant comes down to the Xperia range, within which the numbering of smartphones is sometimes amazing.The flagship presented at the 2019 MWC is the Xperia 1, preceded by the Xperia XZ3, while the mid -range products are the Xperia 10 and 10 Plus.Small budgets will be able to look at the side of the Xperia L3.

Google: 4 models

We would almost hesitate to add the Pixel 4 and 4 XL to this list so they have spread to the press on the past months, but let's for our own, because they are not yet official at the time when this file iswriting.

More seriously and on last year, Google unveiled the third iteration of its Pixel range, for the first time available in France.We were first entitled to a Pixel 3 flagship with an XL variant, then to a lightened 3A pixel also available in large size.

OnePlus: 4 models

There is no doubt that the OnePlus range is clear and parsimonious.The year 2019 saw as usual the arrival of a OnePlus 7 in the spring and an improved version 7t six months later.The latter will not be launched until later among French consumers, and we counted instead the OnePlus 6T from last year.Small variant this year, a more expensive OnePlus 7 Pro has been inserted on the calendar.Most recently, OnePlus lifted the veil on the 7T Pro (and its variant McLaren Edition).

Apple: 3 models

Apple pushes us to consume by leaving too many models, it is well known!Whatever we think of the communication of the apple and the zeal of its fans, it produces only three fruits per year and is thus shared with OnePlus the bottom of our ranking.This year's harvest consists of an iPhone 11 and two more expensive variations, 11 pro and 11 pro max.

Fairphone: (less than) a model

When a smartphone is fair, green and made to be easily repairable, it must of course not be renewed every year.The purpose of the fairphone is to be kept as long as possible, and this shows in the brand's rhythm.Thus, even if the Fairphone 3 was born in 2019, its predecessor dates from 2016.

Essential Phone:… Nothing at all!

Life is complicated in Essential.Andy Rubin, creator of Android, had founded the brand after being ejected from Google - not without a sumptuous gift of exit - following accusations of sexual assault.The startup has known from ups and downs, and let's face it, especially stockings.

Its catalog is currently provided with a single device, the 2017 Essential Phone, which had noticed, among other things, for having a notch before the iPhone X.After rumors of cancellation and closure, we have been rumored since the end of September that an essential phone 2 would be in test.And Andy Rubin recently tweeted photos of a strange elongated device nicknamed "GEM".

All this to say that brands decide to offer more or less wide choices to consumers, so as to adapt to this or that portfolio and to offer the latest hardware developments to those who want to buy a phone now.If your current smartphone works well, keep it.Someone else, who will need it, will buy the new features for you.
