How to watch TV in a motorhome?

You may be traveling the roads of France at the wheel of your motorhome during your next vacation. But maybe you don't want to miss an episode of your favorite series? You will therefore need to be properly equipped to watch TV in your motorhome.

There are several solutions to maintain a vision of the world through television, even in the middle of nowhere! Three classic possibilities are available to you and a few others, a little less conventional but effective. Discover the appropriate solutions for watching television in the middle of nature.

The hertzian or terrestrial antenna

This is the most classic way to watch television in a motorhome. If the image quality is rather pleasant, the installation is sometimes tedious. It is necessary to seek the good direction of the antenna relay and to change it when one moves. What's more, the arrival of DTT HD has somewhat degraded receptions. It is a financially very accessible solution but which does not allow an optimal reception.

The parable

The dish is often the means offered by dealers, it comes in addition to the hertzian antenna. However the parabola requires certain knowledge, and an installation at each stop. Automated dishes are obviously simpler and more efficient. They are very wind sensitive and may not work in remote locations. You will also have to pay a flat rate with an operator such as TNTSat or FranSat.

First of all, you should know that these devices will depend on your phone plan. They all work with dedicated applications.

– The TV Box

All operators now offer a box that connects to your television. For some operators, the TV box is free for others, it is extra. However, the box operators are restricted or in partnership with certain streaming platforms. This does not always allow you to have all the bouquets offered. On the other hand, an Android or Apple TV Box will allow you to add all possible applications. Xiaomi, for example, offers rather affordable TV boxes, which work perfectly.

Sticks like Google Chromecast or Amazon's FireStick also offer a nice alternative. A more than correct reception and a minimal clutter. These keys also work with your DATA phone plan. They also connect via Wifi, practical in a campsite for example or in a place where Wifi is accessible. Their only flaw is having to connect them with extended WiFi passwords each time they go. Moreover, the manipulations are quite tedious in the long run.

The Amazon Fire Stick also allows the voice function, it is a miniature TV box. On the other hand, the keys often offer a slower navigation than a Box TV. They have the enormous advantage of being reliable and of taking up very little space, whether for storing them or for use.

Pay attention to your phone plan

Watching a series or a film consumes between 1 and 3 GB per hour... You will therefore have to make sure you have enough GB for your stay. And monitor your daily consumption to avoid any unpleasant surprises!

If you are considering buying a chromecast or firebox key, check with your telephone operator first. Indeed, small packages of 5 or 10 GB will not be sufficient to watch television via these devices. With a package of around 100 GB, it is possible to watch the evening film without overspending. However, you will have to be careful not to fall asleep in front of the TV or let it run in the background.

Also find out if you have an unlimited plan, because sometimes the offers hide additional costs that are not expected. Some operators indeed limit the flow beyond a certain consumption.
