Artificial intelligence and pregnancy monitoring rewarded with the Sanofi Diabetes Research Prize - Medias24

Contribute to the development, in Morocco, of biomedical research in general and in diabetes in particular.This is the expected objective of the fourth edition of the Diabetes Sanofi Research Prize (Sanofi Diabetes Research Awards), organized on Saturday December 18 under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, and the Ministry of theHigher education, scientific research and innovation.

Since the creation of this prize in 2018, 117 research works have been submitted by doctors researchers practicing in university hospital centers, military hospitals and liberal medicine.This year, no less than 24 research subjects were submitted to the jury.This work emanates from doctors researchers from the CHU and military hospitals of seven cities: Agadir, Casablanca, Fez, Marrakech, Oujda, Rabat and Tangier.

Their content is often linked to epidemiological news, in particular the pandemic of COVVI-19.Indeed, the management of diabetes was impacted by the health crisis.With the isolation of patients generated by restriction measures (total or partial containment, etc..), everyone was able to become aware of the primordial importance of remotely maintaining the monitoring of diabetic patients by health professionals.

Research works have also affected important themes to which patients with diabetes are exposed: Diabetes and Ramadan;child diabetes;diabetes in pregnant women;diabetic foot;Digitalization of therapeutic education and glycemic control.

Artificial and diabetes intelligence

The program of the ceremony of this 2021 edition was articulated around two panels: diabetes in Morocco (indicators, management, evolution of treatments);Genesis and main indicators of the Sanofi Diabetes Sanofi Prize.

This year, two works have obtained the 1st prize, which indicates the quality of their content and the difficulty of deciding them.The jury therefore decided to award two first prizes to the work of two doctors:

- Dr. Imane Motaib, from Mohammed VI University of Health Sciences, for his work entitled "Predicting Poor Glycemic Control During Ramadan AMONG NON FASTING PATIENTS With Diabetes Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) Based Machine Learning Models: The Future is Alreadyhere "(" predict low glycemic control during Ramadan in diabetic patients not fasting, using automatic learning models based on artificial intelligence (IA): the future is already there ");

- Dr. Imane Rami, from endocrinology, diabetology and nutrition service to the Oujda University Hospital, for his work entitled "Ana Wa Soukari, the Moroccan Application of Self -gestion of Diabetes type 1: efficiency and satisfaction".

The third prize was awarded to Dr. Yousra Settai, of the endocrinology-diabetology and metabolic diseases at CHU Ibn Rochd in Casablanca, for his work entitled "TV efficiency in the monitoring of diabetic pregnancies during the pandemic19 ".

The jury was made up of doctors, heads of services, teachers, representatives of institutions, experts, academics, epidemiologists responsible for the care of diabetes in Morocco."To be eligible, research work must be effective and implemented in Morocco in the last three years.He will also have to generate relevance and an impact on public health, "said Professor Asma Chadli, head of the Endocrinology Service of CHU Ibn Rochd of Casablanca and president of the jury.

"We have received 24 work, all very interesting and high level.The choice of jury was difficult to do insofar as these are work that are equal, both in terms of methodology and scientific interest.The first and second prize were practically ex æquo, which is why we decided not to award a second prize, and to serve the first prize for two winners, "Dr. Hamdoun El Hassani, specialist in endocrinology and diseases told Médias24.Metabolic, and president of the Moroccan Society of Endocrinology Diabetology Nutrition (Smedian).

And to add: "The selection criteria are above all scientists.They are based in particular on the methodology, the first basis of scientific work, but also on their novelty: are these new work, on subjects never addressed?We have also taken into account the impact that these works can have on the management of the diabetic patient and on the health system.Finally, can these works have continuity in the future?Research is evolving, continuous;We had to be sure of the sustainability and usefulness of this work for the future.It is a determining factor in the award of the first prize.»»
