A.I. Artificial intelligence: what becomes of Haley Joel Osment, the child star of the 2000s?
In A.I. Artificial Intelligence, rebroadcast this evening on Arte as part of a cycle on Steven Spielberg, Haley Joel Osment was David, a robot child adopted by humans. What is happening today to the child star who was only 13 at the time of filming?
His childish face will have marked the spirits. And for good reason: when he was only ten years old, Haley Joel Osment chained roles in films appreciated by the general public and recognized by critics. We remember him in Forest Gump (1994) when he played the son of the hero played by Tom Hanks (he was only 6 years old); in Sixth Sense (1999), alongside Bruce Willis, which won him numerous awards including Best Actor at the Golden Globes (and the cult line: “I see people who are dead“); in A Better World (2000) where he played a child proposing to make humanity better; and also in A.I. Artificial Intelligence, by Steven Spielberg, rebroadcast this evening on Arte. The film tells of a future world populated by multi-tasking humans and androids, in which a couple, whose natural son is gravely ill, adopt a prototype sentient robot child.
Still an actor
Today Haley Joel Osment has grown up well – he is 29 years old – but has kept his childish features. Still an actor and also a graduate in history and theater, he still turns but in projects with less scope compared to those he was able to land in the past. You may have seen it in Tusk, or Entourage, the movie. This year, he has a small role in the HBO series Silicon Valley and plays a doctor in another series, Future man, whose season 1 will be available from November 14 on the Hulu platform.
